Sense of Community: Local Elections

Voting is one of the most important ways a United States citizen can participate in the democratic process, yet voter turnout tends to be extremely low, especially in local elections where a single ballot carries the most weight. Sense of Community: Local Elections looks at what goes on behind the scenes of the voting process in southwest Missouri. You’ll find out how to register to vote and hear from organizations that are working to make sure the process is free, fair, and accessible to everyone. We’ll talk with candidates for the November election to learn what it takes to run for office and visit the Republican and Democratic headquarters in Greene County to help you understand the role of political parties in local elections. You'll learn what's being done locally to make sure voters with disabilities can cast a ballot without barriers, and we’ll examine the role of election judges — why they matter, and how you can volunteer to help run future elections.
