Ozarks Public Television: Serving Seniors

OPT is committed to serving our senior viewers through information and education. The Greene County Senior Citizen’s Service Tax Fund has helped fund a variety of projects and services that help meet the needs of seniors in our area, including:


The ARC of the Ozarks
Provides residential, employment, community integration, day programming and recreation services for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Council of Churches – Ombudsman Program
Provides ombudsman services to all residents of all long-term care facilities through advocacy and education.


Give 5
A “civic matchmaking” program that matches retirees and soon-to-be retirees with meaningful volunteer opportunities that best fit their skill sets and passions.

SeniorAge Area Agency on Aging
Provides special programs, services and information for seniors and caregivers. 


Senior Centers
Services include a variety of social and wellness activities, as well as meal programs.

Springfield Greene County Library
Provides home book deliveries, technology classes, large-print books, and much more.


Jordan Valley Community Health Center – Dental Care
Provides dental services.

Springfield Greene County Health Department Shingles Vaccination Program
Provides no-cost shingles vaccinations to Greene County residents over 60 years of age.

Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Missouri
Provides services for individuals and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s, including support groups, educational sessions, online resources, and a 24-7 helpline with information and advice.

Hunger Relief

Salvation Army Food Pantry
Provides open food pantry on Wednesdays from 9:30am-3pm.

Ash Grove Food Pantry
Providing food for the hungry, as well as monthly food delivery for the elderly and disabled.


Independent Living


CoxHealth Lifeline Medical Alert
Provides medical alert devices to aid individuals living independently.


Crosslines – Homebound Shopper Program
Volunteers help shop for groceries and provide social support for seniors unable to shop for themselves.

United Way Hands on for Seniors
Completes outdoor home repairs and yardwork to help seniors remain independent in their homes.

Council of Churches – Connections Handyman Service
Provides essential home repairs to help low-income seniors remain independent in their homes.

Legal Aid

Legal Services of Southern Missouri
Provides legal representation for seniors on a variety of civil matters, including healthcare directives, simple wills, estate planning, guardianships, divorces, tenant issues, and consumer fraud.


OATS Transit
Provides specialized transportation for citizens of all ages.  Helpful for medical appointments, shopping trips or other errands.  Their vehicles can accommodate walkers and wheelchairs, and services pets are welcome. 



Spanish Language Services


Groupo Latinoamericano

Offers translation of legal and medical documents, and organizes traditional dances that help connect Hispanic seniors to their heritage.



SeniorAge Area Agency on Aging
Offers bilingual care coordination and guidance in the areas of home health, housing options and public benefits.


Peer Support


Lost & Found Grief Center
Offers bi-weekly support groups for adults grieving the loss of a spouse.


National Alliance on Mental Illness
Provides mental health services, including a weekly support group, Focus on the Positive, hosted at Northview Center in Springfield.
